My Dear, You're Positively Glowing
Well, we did the second scan today, and no surprises on it too, so good news. As now expected, Darcy was given a quite small dose of Iodine 131 to destroy any remaining thyroid tissue (50 millicuries). We're home from the hospital now, and Darcy is now ensconced in her lair. It's so odd to think she's radioactive. I'm joking she should try experimental photography. Get a large sheet of photo paper and see what kind of exposures she can make!
Anyway, now it's down to waiting it out. She'll be out on Monday, and back on the Synthroid. Almost out.
Mom has been here the last few days, helping with the kids and all. She's off back to NY on Saturday, and I'll be holding down the fort (with help from James and Ana) this weekend. Then Doug's coming out Monday morning to help with the aftermath. But I suspect she'll be feeling great by Tuesday, with the Synthroid kicking in.

Bruce, what's the deal with Darcy's "cell"? I had thought you were going to move the kids out...but this sounds like quite another plan. She's in the basement with TiVo?
It's such good news that a low dose is thought to be the final chapter in all this. Does she have to go back for another scan, or is that going to be further out--six months, a year?
Please give our love to the Prisoner of Zenda, and good job to both of you for getting through this challenging week!
Well, it turns out this is the far easier plan, and the kids get to have a more regular schedule, too. Since we had this bedroom/bath combination in the basement which can be locked from the rest of the house it seemed a natural solution.
We'll see though, won't we?
As Kate said, I thought you were going to move the kids to another place. This will work fine if you can keep them away from Darcy. Will they scream and carry on when they can't get in to see her? I hope not and hope that you all get through this weekend. My love to all of you, and Monday can't come too fast.
So far so good. They seem quite OK with the situation. As long as they can't SEE her, I think. Knowing she's back there in the abstract does not seem to set them off at all.
Bruce, good for you and Darcy for figuring out a way that's best for the kids and still keeps everyone safe! How is Darcy doing?
And how do you get meals to her--via the coal shute? How do YOU stay safe and still take care of her?
Only Saturday and Sunday left to go! Hang in there. Please say hi to Doug for me on Monday.
