Bell-Myers Family

Bits of madness and fun from the on-going saga that is the Bell-Myers family. News, photos, whatnot. Cute stories. Whatever we feel like, really.

Back from the Mayo

Well, we're back from our trip to the Mayo, and our surgery date is tentatively set for Sept 20. The visit went well, no news really, other than the date. Of course, they will be rerunning the slides through their own pathology lab, and running more tests, but the doctor did a preliminary ultrasound, and he's fairly sure he agrees with the diagnosis. And her chest X-Ray looks normal. So we're going back for more tests and a visit with the Dr. Fatourechi and the surgeon, Dr. Grant on Tues., Sept 19. We'll probably drive up the night before and stay at a hotel, cause the tests start at 6:40 am. Then stay that night, and have the surgery the next day, on the 20th. Darcy will stay overnight at the hospital, then we drive home the next day, the 21st.

They're unsure if she'll need the iodine-131 treatments, but if she does (and I think we should assume she will), it will be several weeks later. And she'll be radioactive, so, she'll be cordoned off in her own room, with no contact with the kids or the rest of us. Maybe we'll give her some film to see if she can expose it! But those treatments would be back here at home, so no more 2 hour drives to Rochester.

Anyway, that's all for now, I'm bushed and the kids have to go to bed.

Mayo Clinic on Thursday

We're going to the Mayo on Thursday, 8/31, which will probably be an all-day affair. It's a 2 hour drive away and they're so thorough. I'm looking forward to getting a final diagnosis on Darcy's condition. It's better to have the facts, I feel. It's so easy to get lost in conjecture and worry, and that's just not helpful. I'll post the results immediately, so you don't have to worry.

My Singing Bird

We recorded Darcy singing an Irish lullaby, "My Singing Bird" (6meg, mp3). She intends to make an album of lullabies. Wake me up when it's ready!

If you have a slower connection to the internet, you might want to download the file to your hard drive before you try playing it.

Today we made a movie, the kids made up the plot, and Bruce shot and directed. Then, while everyone else was napping, Bruce and Vanessa edited it. Enjoy. It's a 9meg Quicktime movie.

You can download Quicktime from Apple's website, if you don't already have it. Click "Get Quicktime" under Links on the home page in the upper right hand corner.
